Math
I am so very proud of this Math lesson that I created for my grade 3/4 class. I created '10 houses' to help students visualize what house the number was closest to for rounding and estimation in addition. Below are pictures of the '10 houses' in the foyer. Social Studies
All Social Studies classes were taught via team teaching, with the other PS1 student in the 3/4 split class. This was a great opportunity to collaborate with another teacher in my position and it allowed us to bounce some really great ideas off of each other. The result was some engaging lessons that students really enjoyed. Below, is are some pictures of resources we had for students and a copy of 2 lessonplans for consecutive classes. The lesson involved stations that we had students work through. As they did, students learned about Alberta's Rocky Mountain Region, part of the grade 4 curriculum.

This station had students moving the pictures of vegetation to where they would most likely find it growing on a mountain.

This station was about the animals life that can be found in Alberta's Rocky Mountain region. The activity had students matching the animal to their name on the worksheet. On the reverse side of each animal was an interesting fact about that species. Some of these facts helped students answer questions on their worksheet.

These signs were the exact symbols as seen in the textbook. The symbols were enlarged, colored and placed at every station so students could relate the activity they were doing to the picture they had previously seen in the textbook.

Physical Education
During PS1 I had the chance to introduce Basketball to the grade 3/4 students and I was very excited to do so. I have hours of coaching hours so I figured it would be a simple crossover to PE class, was I ever wrong. Although I felt very comfortable teaching in the gymnasium setting, coaching a team and teaching a class are very different. The biggest difference I found was time, not much was accomplished in 30 minutes for the first couple of classes but as I adapted, I was able to make reasonable lesson plans for the class.
The documents to follow are consecutive lesson plans and reflections that I made during the first couple PE classes of basketball.
Here is an example of my first PE lesson, focusing on the skill of dribbling.
The writing to the right is a picture of the reflection I did after that first lesson. It was valuable for me to do this reflection because it allowed me to re-plan my lesson for the following class in terms of what was not covered from the lesson before.

This is the dribbling lesson I planned for the next day- let's just say I didn't learn too much from the day before and over planned again. The notes that I took from this class very much came in handt for later classeson.



Finally, my lesson plans evolved, and one of the final PE lessons to do specifically with dribbling incorporated the skills that I taught in the previous lessons into a couple fun games that the students loved. The link to this lesson plan is to the right.
