My Teaching Philosophy

In the Classroom:

I believe as a teacher it is my responsibility to guide students towards success. Success is measured differently from student to student- each student can experience success in their own rights.

I believe it is a student’s right to have an open and safe learning environment, one that is clear of judgement and disrespect. As a teacher it is my responsibility to provide that space for all of my students.

I believe all students are creative individuals and they deserve constructive and timely feedback on a regular basis in order to further their learning. It is a teacher’s responsibility to provide that feedback in a manner that will empower students’ thoughts.

I believe all students are entitled to a lesson that meets their unique learning needs and styles. As a teacher it is my responsibility to understand the needs of each student and redirect my teaching to cater to each student’s style. All students have the ability to learn if they are given the proper opportunity.

I believe that parents are key in their child’s learning but over involvement can also push a child away from learning. There is a fine line between too much and not enough parental participation in a student’s learning, it is my responsibility to guide parents in their child's education.

In Physical Education:

As an ambassador of physical fitness, I believe that physical activity is something everyone has the potential to succeed at. A student can struggle with reading, writing and math but have total capability in their body movements. Success in physical activity can have a positive affect on a students success in more traditional classes.

I believe that regular physical fitness not only is beneficial to the heart but also to the brain. Physical activity allows for better retention of information. When the body feels great, the brain reacts in a positive manner.

I believe that everyone has the right to play, no matter the age or maturity level. Play does not always need to happen on a playground or with a ball. Play means the opportunity to shut off the brain from stressors and enjoy just being in the moment.

I believe there are opportunities for the physically disabled to live a physically active lifestyle. There are ways around any obstacle- it is my responsibility to find what modification is appropriate for the student.
